The first "General Technical Conditions for Children's Furniture" in China was officially implemented on August 1, 2012. The standard clarifies that the applicable age group of children's furniture is from 3 to 14 years old, except for sharp corners, protruding parts, holes and gaps of children's furniture. The size, stability and other aspects are clearly stipulated, and the control of 10 kinds of toxic and harmful substances including formaldehyde and soluble heavy metals has also been strictly restricted. Formaldehyde emission continues the original limit requirements. For heavy metals, the content requirements of four heavy metals such as antimony, arsenic, barium and selenium are increased. Azo (decomposable aromatic amines) in textiles and leather fabrics are banned. The content of diformate is also limited accordingly.
According to the introduction of relevant drafting experts, the new implementation standards are clarified in the following aspects.
First of all, there are scientific and detailed regulations in terms of structural safety, ranging from stability or folding brackets to small holes and gaps. For example, the standard stipulates that the hole and the gap should be within the range of less than 6mm or greater than or equal to 12mm to avoid the potential danger of pinching children's hands or other parts of the body. In order to prevent children from being harmed by closed furniture, such as children who hide in the furniture for a long time and suffocate, the standard stipulates that the continuous space of the closed cabinet is greater than 0.03m3, and the internal dimensions of the cabinet are all greater than or equal to 150mm. When a closed space can accommodate a child, it has certain ventilation and ventilation functions to ensure that there is no potential danger of suffocation for children; or the door or cover is easy to open when closing the key, the opening force is less than or equal to 45N, and the closing key cannot be installed. Automatically lock settings.
In terms of structural safety, the standard also stipulates that glass parts cannot be used in products except in areas above 1600mm above the ground level or the height of children's standing surfaces. At the same time, the ropes used in furniture, casters of swivel chairs and pneumatic rods are all stipulated in detail in other structural safety aspects of the standard.
Secondly, in terms of the limit of harmful substances, the new national standard highlights the environmental protection of children's furniture, which is harmful to 10 kinds of toxic substances such as heavy metals, formaldehyde emission and decomposable aromatic amines in the main and auxiliary materials such as children's furniture man-made panels, coatings, textiles, and leather fabrics. Hazardous substances have stricter limits than adult furniture. The limit of its harmful substances is basically the same as the international industry standard, which conforms to the needs of domestic and foreign markets. For example, in the material regulation GB/T 16799 leather for furniture, the limit value of free formaldehyde is 75mg/kg. The limit value of free formaldehyde in children's furniture is obviously stricter than the requirements of ordinary furniture, and its standard value is consistent with the standard requirements of British FIRA/FRQG C001 ; With regard to phthalates in plastics, they are mainly used to limit the use of such plasticizers in plastic parts of furniture, in line with EU Directive 2005/84/EC and Washington State regulations that stipulate DEHP, DBP, BBP, DINP, The total weight percentage of DIDP and DNOP should not exceed 0.1% as specified.
On the warning signs of children's furniture, the new standard requires specific items to be warned to avoid unnecessary harm to children. For example, for furniture with folding or adjusting devices, the warning words "WARNING! Be careful to clip" should be marked at the appropriate position of the product; if it is a swivel chair with a lifting pneumatic rod, it should be marked at the appropriate position of the product "Danger! Do not lift frequently. play" warning. And it is clearly stipulated that the safety warning fonts such as danger, warning, and attention in the warning words shall not be smaller than the 4th boldface, and the warning content shall not be smaller than the 5th boldface.
?How should parents choose suitable and safe children's furniture? Some sales professionals pointed out: "With the introduction of the 'new national standard', the state's attention to the safety details of children's furniture has greatly increased. Therefore, parents should pay attention when choosing children's furniture, and the edges of the furniture must not have sharp corners or protruding edges. The parts of the furniture should be rounded and chamfered as much as possible. The drawers of the furniture should be damped and anti-slip, and the handles should be inlaid with grooves. At the same time, try not to choose furniture with gaps to prevent children from getting stuck during play. Hands and feet. For sealed wardrobes and wardrobes, you must pay attention to whether there are air circulation eyes, etc. For colored furniture, you must carefully check the quality inspection report to avoid excessive formaldehyde, aromatic amines, etc.
